Siem Reap is the biggest tourist attraction in Cambodia, mostly due to Angkor. If you want to visit Angkor, you would stay in Siem Reap, which is like 30 minutes away by bicycle. We were thinking that the town itself would be too touristy but actually it was the prettiest place we’ve seen in Cambodia. There is only one too touristy bar street that’s just too much (we also had a bad/bitter experience there, because we met the most right wing/neonazi people we’ve ever seen - german father and son; we won’t write about it here but if you are curious you can ask us). If you avoid it, it is very local. Though we also stayed a bit far from the center, so we are closer to Angkor and we don’t have to cycle through crazy traffic in the city while going there. But the best part of Siem Reap, the river going through the town, it is very relaxing to cycle next to the river.

There was one canteen we visited frequently in our street with great home made food, and one day some young locals there shared their beers with us. Around that area everyone was just very nice.

Also in Siem Reap, they were putting up lots of decorations and even a Christmas tree because soon (14-16th of April this year), it is Khmer new year! We will miss that but luckily in Laos it is the same times for their new year.

Because of the nice river going through the city, the nice people and also because we could cycle around, even besides Angkor, Siem Reap was our favourite place in Cambodia!
